Founder, Steven C. Leuthold

Steven C. Leuthold was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota in 1937. Growing up, he was a song writer and played guitar in the rockabilly band, Steve Carl and the Jags. After graduating college with a degree in History, he joined the National Guard to help pay his tuition, which is where he found his interest in the investment business.

In 1981, Steve founded The Leuthold Group, an institutional investment research firm. He became a leading national expert in the investment field, known for his often contrarian views.

Steve spent over thirty summers living on Bailey Island in Maine. He loved being on the Maine coast growing potatoes and befriending the local lobstermen. He was a committed philanthropist, often giving anonymously yet living modestly.

In 1991, Steve funded and founded The Steven C. Leuthold Family Foundation. The Leuthold Family Foundation supports non-profits including those focused on land conservation, environmental protection, human services, and animal welfare.
